Chamonix Women’s New Years Ski Touring/ Splitboarding Retreat
Chamonix for New YearsOf all the trips on our 2027 calendar, this one might just be the most special to me as it was 4 years ago during my time working a ski season in Chamonix that I first purchased my splitboard and thus began my love of human powered travel into some of the wildest mountain landscapes our planet has to offer. It truly was the most life changing hobby I’ve ever picked up and I hope to create that same life changing experience for the woman that join.
I remember starting out thinking just how intimidating this sport was, from all of the specialized gear and avalanche safety equipment required to the training and knowledge necessary to use it along with finding people willing to go out with a complete beginner. Ever since then it’s always been my dream to help break down the barriers to entry and help more women get into this sport in a safe and supportive environment. Which is why I strive to create the exact trip I would of dreamt of attending 4 years ago when I was starting out.
Chamonix truly is one of the most special mountain towns on this planet, there really is no where like it but it is also an intimidating place to navigate on your own, especially if you did not grow up in a mountainous world. Being the mountaineering capital of the world it attracts the most skilled mountain people from around the world, which can be incredibly intimidating. But that’s what I’m striving to change with Femme Mountain, to ensure woman know there is space for them and to help them build the lifelong confidence and skills needed to navigate any mountain town.
Who this adventure is for & what it entails:
This Chamonix women’s back country retreat is for skiers and snowboarders/splitboarders alike. This retreat is designed for women that are comfortable in all off piste conditions and looking to take their first strides into the world of backcountry travel/ ski touring or women that already have some ski touring/ splitboarding experience but want to progress and gain avalanche safety training as well as experience in one of the ski touring meccas of this planet.
No previous avalanche safety training is required as we will learn how to use our gear and practice rescue training so we can all move through the mountains with more confidence and be an invaluable member to any back country trip. This adventure is designed to give you the confidence and skills needed for a life of adventuring far from the resort boundaries and the ability to join any of our other trips around the world.
You most certainly do not need to be the most skilled rider out there as I strive to make these trips as inclusive as possible. You will need to be comfortable riding in variable snow conditions as late December/ early January in Chamonix can provide all sorts of conditions, we could have beautiful pow days or perhaps some wind blown ice, so being comfortable on it all will ensure you get the most out of this trip. You will need previous off piste experience.
The most important factor in ensuring your enjoyment on this trip is your mindset and your ability to climb up to 1000m a day, day after day as every turn out there has to be earned.
As this is still early season in the Alps we will not be heading into the high alpine or glaciated terrain so this trip is not as suitable for women looking for big touring days.
Ensuring you have the right layering and clothing system dialed is imperative to your success on this trip. As temperatures will vary and late December can be one of the colder periods in the Alps.
This trip begins and ends in Geneva, Switzerland, the closest airport to Chamonix. It is approximately 1.5hr by private transfer from the airport to our Chalet base in Chamonix.
The weeks outlook:
Day 1 will begin with arrivals throughout the day to Geneva with included group airport transportation to our Chamonix Chalet. We will have canapes and welcome drinks for your arrival to our cozy Chamonix Chalet as well as time to settle in and get to know the amazing women you will be sharing the most incredible New Years week with. We will have a chef prepared welcome dinner that evening by our incredibly talented chef who will be cooking for us all week. We will also have gear fitting and rentals pickup for the girls requiring rentals.
On day 2 we will have a lovely chef prepared buffet breakfast before we begin our ski touring portion of the week. Our local guides will pick us up and transfer us to their chosen ski resort for our first day on snow together. We will split into our groups and begin our training/ ski touring. After a lovely day on snow we will transfer back to our Chalet where we will have time to refresh and relax, taking full advantage of our hot tub and mountain views before a beautiful family style dinner prepared by our chef.
Days 3 - 6 will follow the same routine as day 2 with our chef prepared breakfast in our chalet each morning, followed by transferring to our guides chosen ski area each morning for ski touring before transferring back to our chalet each afternoon, where you’ll have time to rest, relax, apres and explore Chamonix town as our chalet is within walking distance before our chef prepared dinner each evening. We will also have different activities throughout the week including of course a special New Years celebration.
On day 7 we will have our final chef prepared breakfast in our Chalet before saying bye to the incredible women we got to share this life changing week with. We will say our farewells to Chamonix and board our included transportation back to Geneva airport for our afternoon flights.
Meet your group leader
Hi! My name’s Alli, the founder of Femme Mountain Collective. An initiative to create more female communities in the mountains, get more women into the back country safely and organize dream ski touring/ splitboarding trips for women around the world. It is my dream to help more women get out there and to bring them to places perhaps they have dreamt of but haven’t been able to find the right group to share this adventure with. I carefully curate each trip to ensure safety of the group while delivering a bucket list adventure so that these women leave with a life changing experience in a destination they may have otherwise never had the chance to ski in, alongside a sister hood of supportive women & perhaps plans for future wild endeavours they may have never even thought possible before.
I’m originally from Canada, although you wouldn’t have found me there much the last decade. I’ve been so blessed to have traveled the world and often with my ski bag in tow, skiing on 4 continents (soon to be 5) alone in the last year. I now call Revelstoke, British Columbia home and it’s the perfect base to the live the mountain life while continuing to grow my international adventure brand for women around the world.
Chamonix, France is an extra special mountain town to me, as it is where I began my splitboarding journey while working a ski season there. I remember starting out, thinking just how intimidating it all was, from the gear, to the courses to finding the right people to head into the back country with, so it has been a long time dream of mine to make the back country a less intimidating space, especially for women and Chamonix is the perfect place to bring this vision to life.
Meet your Co Host
Meet Sophie:
I truly believe that all of the women that are meant to come on my trips will find me and join when the time is right. Sophie joined my Kyrgyzstan trip last year and I don’t believe it was a coincidence but rather a fated encounter. Sophie sees my big visions and wants to help bring them to life. She also has the experience and skills to do so.
She’s originally from the U.K but is now based in Morzine, France to be closer to the mountains. So she has plenty of experience in the French Alps and is very familiar with Chamonix, living only 1 hour away.
Sophie is the queen of organizing and planning, ensuring everything runs smoothly. She works as a freelance event planner and just spent time in Mexico City on the ground helping to run a smooth Fifa world cup and troubleshooting any issues that arise so she truly is the queen of logistics.
She’s got that great British banter and she’s very easy to talk to, she’ll provide an extra layer of support and laughs for all the women that join. Sophie is a snowboarder/splitboarder and will provide extra support on the skin track.
It is my dream to bring on even more women as we expand but I am very protective of my brand and my visions, so a deep level of trust is needed to ensure I know they can help to execute my big visions even farther. As we do start expanding more and hiring more, I look to the women who have previously joined my trips first, as they are familiar with the Femme Mountain vibe, I get to know them personally and we form a level of trust that can only be formed from spending time together in the mountains.
I’m super excited to be bringing on a co host for this adventure to help ensure the Femme mountain vibe and ensure maximum safety out there. Our guide to guest ratio is 1:5 .
