Georgia Women’s Cat Ski & Backcountry ski touring/splitboarding trip

Georgia with the girls

Last year, during our ski touring trip to Kyrgyzstan I asked the woman who joined where was their next dream ski destination and the answer was almost unanimously Georgia so I knew I had to explore it for a future Femme Mountain destination. I’ve long been attracted to the lesser traveled parts of the world and I want to curate trips for women to these dream destinations and deliver an experience you can only possibly get from an all women’s environment. I believe in offering more than just a ski touring/splitboarding trip and want to incorporate the local culture wherever possible. I also want to ensure the women who join feel safe and supported at every stage.

As backcountry skiing/snowboarding is an inherently risky sport and a deep level of trust is needed. The skin track doesn’t exactly provide the right opportunity to talk with and get to know all the women in your group, which is why I love to start every trip with a welcome dinner to give a chance to really meet the women you will spend the next week in the mountains with and form a bond so everyone has each others back out there.

Who this adventure is for & what it entails:

This Georgia women’s ski touring trip is designed for women that already have experience in the backcountry and are familiar with all of their gear and how it works as rentals are not available locally and gear repair shops are not common.

It is also super beneficial if you have previous avalanche safety training and practice using your gear so you can be an invaluable member of the team. We will do transceiver checks and practice each day before setting off into the mountains.

You most certainly do not need to be the most skilled rider out there as I strive to make these trips as inclusive as possible. You will need to be comfortable riding in variable snow conditions as January is deep winter in Georgia, you can expect beautiful pow days or perhaps some wind blown ice, so being comfortable on it all will ensure you get the most out of this trip.

The most important factor in ensuring your enjoyment on this trip is your mindset and your ability to climb up to 1000m day after day as every turn out there has to be earned.

Since January is deep winter, you must be ready for it all, we could have cold storm days where we will stick to lower elevations or bluebird days where we head higher into the alpine.

Ensuring you have the right layering and clothing system dialled is imperative to your success on this trip. As temperatures will almost always be below freezing to -10 celsius during the day, dropping even lower at night.

This trip begins and ends in Kutaisi, Georgia, the gateway to the Svaneti region and ensures we spend less time in cars transferring and more time enjoying the snow and the culture.

Day 1 will begin with arrivals throughout the day with included group airport transportation to our Kutaisi hotel. The earlier you arrive, the more time you will have to explore this vibrant town. We will have a welcome dinner that evening for your first chance to meet all of the other incredible women you will be spending the week with and it wouldn’t be right to visit the oldest wine making region in the world without at least sampling their grapes so we will get a chance to learn about the wine making process and taste the fruits of their labour.

On day 2 we will load up our transfer car and drive for 5 hours deep into the Caucasus mountain range to our base for the next week. An idyllic Georgia mountain hotel in the center of Mestia. This transfer will give you time to rest and perhaps recover if too many glasses of wine were had. During our stay at the hotel all breakfasts and dinners are included and prepared for us, we will also be able to pack ourselves a lunch from the breakfast buffet each morning for our time in the mountains or visit the shops of Mestia to grab your favourite touring snacks.

Days 3 - 8 will be the ski touring/splitboarding portion of our trip. We will be led into the mountains each day by our certified local GMGA ski guides who will ensure we stay safe out there and find the best lines for us daily. We will also have 1 day of cat skiing included, weather permitting to give our legs a rest and have a new experience.

On day 9 we will transfer back to Kutaisi for our final evening together with free time to explore the town and purchase any last minute gifts or souvenirs if you wish.

Day 10 will see the end of our time in Georgia together, we will have included airport transportation to the Kutaisi airport.

Meet your group leader

Hi! My name’s Alli, the founder of Femme Mountain Collective. An initiative to create more female communities in the mountains, and organize dream ski touring/ splitboarding trips for women around the world. It is my dream to help more women get out there and to bring them to places perhaps they have dreamt of but haven’t been able to find the right group to share this adventure with. I carefully curate each trip to ensure safety of the group while delivering a bucket list adventure so that these women leave with a life changing experience in a destination they may have otherwise never had the chance to ski in, alongside a sister hood of supportive women & perhaps plans for future wild endeavours they may have never even thought possible before.

I’m originally from Canada, although you wouldn’t have found me there much the last decade. I’ve been so blessed to have traveled the world and often with my ski bag in tow, skiing on 4 continents (soon to be 5) alone in the last year. I now call Revelstoke, British Columbia home and it’s the perfect base to the live the mountain life while continuing to grow my international adventure brand for women around the world.

I’m super excited to be bringing on a co host for this adventure to help ensure the femme mountain vibe and ensure maximum safety out there. Our guide to guest ratio is 6:1 with 5 girls and 1 host in each group.
